Salon to turn 30 with celebration, donations to SPCA

Irish Eyes Beauty in Scotts Valley will celebrate its 30 year anniversary with an open house celebration at its Scotts Valley location.

The open house will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, March 17 at the salon, located at 5215 Scotts Valley Drive.

Owner Deborah Parcel and other stylists will serve refreshments, host a drawing for a gift basket valued at $200 and provide beauty supply samples during the open house.

Entries into the drawing are $1 each and all proceeds will benefit the SPCA. The donations will help pet owners comply with the new micro chip requirement recently adopted by Santa Cruz County Supervisors.

Additionally, beauty supply products including hair care and professional makeup brushes will be sold at a discount with proceeds to benefit the SPCA.

Bitcoin seminar approaches

The Quail & Thistle Tea Room in Capitola will host a fireside chat and dinner for those interested to get familiar with the terms and flow of the digital currency, Bitcoin.

The event will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, March 21 at 911 Capitola Avenue, in Capitola.

The restaurant, run by Ben Lomond resident Danny Thorpe, began accepting Bitcoin as a payment for restaurant meals and catering services in February.

“Based on an internet search of local businesses, we believe The Quail & Thistle is the first restaurant in Santa Cruz County to accept Bitcoin payments,” Thorpe said.

The dinner seminar will discuss the criticisms of the Bitcoin model and the traps and pitfalls that people should be aware of to avoid being caught in a scam. Bitcoin will not be sold at the dinner, which is simply an educational event, Thorpe said.
