San Lorenzo Valley High senior Michael Kraft won his fourth wrestling league title in four years as he qualified for the Central Coast Section tournament this weekend.

Kraft, who defeated Tristan Leonetti of Scotts Valley High in the 147-pound final, was one of a handful of local wrestlers who advanced to sections by finishing in the top three at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League tournament on Feb. 15 at San Lorenzo Valley High.

Aptos High won the tournament for the fourth year in a row by scoring 200.5 points. Scotts Valley finished second with 154.5 points, followed by SLV in third with 111 points.

Each local school was represented by individual league champions.

Scotts Valley wrestler Kevin Eddington won his third league title, this year defeating Sonny Torres of Soquel in the final at 128 pounds.

Teammate Andy Ramirez, wrestling at 162 pounds, defeated Austen Verduggo of Aptos in the final and captured his first league crown.

Baldan Dashiev of Scotts Valley defeated Nick Demoro of Aptos in the final to win the 184-pound class

For the SLV Cougars, Kurt Lambaren defeated Colin MacKenzie of Harbor as he claimed his first league crown at 197 pounds.

SLV sophomore Jason Silva took second at 108 pounds, freshman Jed Kraft placed second at 115 pounds and Jeremiah Jurado finished second at 172 pounds. Finishing third were Vidal Jones (122 pounds), Patrick Brooks (162 pounds), Karl Johnson (184 pounds) and Chase Kammeier (287 pounds).

Scotts Valley had four second-place finishers: Michael Sandoval at 122 pounds, Nicholas Reyes at 140 pounds, Tristan Leonetti at 147 pounds and Doug Peyser at 154 pounds. Teammates Jake Revino (115 pounds), Grant Margerum (134 pounds), Eric Graves (172 pounds) and Christian Robattaro (222 pounds) took third in their classes.

The two-day CCS tournament will take place at Independence High School in San Jose from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23.

SLV’s Michael Kraft was the only local wrestler to be seeded in the top six. He earned the fourth seed at 147 pounds.
