A Scotts Valley man was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on Friday, May 17 on suspicion of distributing harmful material to a minor and inappropriate communication with a minor.

According to Scotts Valley Police Sgt. Mike Dean, Randel Clark Bragg, 51, was arrested at Scotts Valley police headquarters after he was contacted and visited the station in connection to an incident two days earlier at Scotts Valley High School.

According to the department, Bragg was contacted by a school official before school hours on Wednesday, May 15 when he was seen leaving a bag of baked good near a pay phone on campus.

When confronted, according to the police department, the man told the school employee that the bag was for two female students he knew. Then he left. The school employee alerted administrators, who contacted police.

Detectives identified Bragg and determined he was a family friend of one of the girls and had been sending text messages to one of the girls.

Police contacted Bragg who voluntarily visited SVPD headquarters where he was taken into custody. According to Dean, a review of one of the girls’ iPod revealed sexually explicit messages sent by Bragg. Bragg does not have a history of any sex crimes, Dean said.
