Road delays, closure for Lompico Road

The Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works announced crews will perform tree-removal on Lompico Road near the intersection with East Zayante Road, and traffic delays could be expected.

Work will begin Monday, Feb. 4, and continue through Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

On Monday and Wednesday, lane closures and delays of up to 30 minutes can be expected. On Tuesday, the road will be closed to all but emergency vehicles.

Scotts Valley Recreation registration open

The Scotts Valley Recreation Department announced that registration for spring classes is open.

Classes offered include a variety of art, music, yoga, dance classes and sports. Registration is also open for swim classes at the Siltanen Family Swim Center, which begin March 19.

Registration for adult dodgeball, softball, bocce and women's soccer leagues is scheduled to begin soon.

SAT prep class available

On March 2 and 3, high school students will be able to participate in Catalyst SAT boot camp at Scotts Valley High School.

Hosted by the Scotts Valley High School Parent Club, the two-day course will help prepare high school students for the SAT exams.

The course costs $165 per student and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.

Malone’s announces last qualifier competition for Scotts Valley Idol

On Saturday, Feb. 2, Malone’s Grille will host its weekly karaoke contest, the winners of which will be eligible to participate in the restaurant’s sixth annual Scotts Valley Idol competition scheduled for Feb. 9.

County clerk passport hours

The Santa Cruz county clerk has announced the office will be open and accepting passport applications Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Santa Cruz County Clerk/Elections Department, located at 701 Ocean St., Room 210, in Santa Cruz.

The extra hours are part of the Passport Day program, which offers weekend hours four Saturdays per year. 

The county’s regular passport acceptance hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 pm.
