San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club

The club has scheduled its February speakers for each meeting — Feb. 6: Nancy Parker of Monterey Bay Aquarium; Feb. 13: TBA; Feb. 20: Gil Gunn on the history of Rotary banner collection; Feb. 27: Holger Klinge, a Rotary ambassadorial scholar.

The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in Birch Dining Room on 37 Conference Drive, in the Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.

Exchange Club of Scotts Valley

The club held its annual finance board meeting and voted to give a $500 scholarship to the most improved student at Scotts Valley High School upon graduation. The winner will be determined later.

The club also donated $1,000 to the new theater project that has been proposed at the Scotts Valley Branch Library.

Club members are considering a donation for security door locks that the school district cannot fund. The subject will be discussed at a later meeting.

The club’s Blue and Gold dinner to name the police officer and firefighter of the year is scheduled for May 3 at Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road, in Scotts Valley.

The exchange meets at noon the second Wednesday of each month at Mint, 4652 Scotts Valley Drive. A monthly event at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Scotts Valley Branch Library, 251 Kings Village Road, features a community leader presenting local information.

Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley

In December, the Kiwanis Club provided Santa Claus, a troop of elves and more than 80 gifts to children at the annual Big Brothers and Big Sisters luncheon at Shadowbrook. The club’s annual Christmas breakfast and auction took place Dec. 12 at Peachwood’s Steakhouse. Kiwanis members have begun planning for the 2013 season of Music at Skypark, and volunteers are needed.

The club meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Bruno’s BBQ, 230 Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley. The second Wednesday of each month is an evening meeting at Bruno’s at 6 p.m. All are welcome.
